Knight Venture Capital invests in Stream.io

Amsterdam, August 13th – Software company Stream.io closed a $15 million Series A round from GGV Capital, Knight Venture Capital and other backers, including former Twitter CEO David Costolo, Datadog CEO Olivier Pomel and GitHub cofounder Tom Preston-Werner.

Stream provides highly reliable, scalable and secure software for live feed and chats for any company to include in their own apps. This drastically reduces the time needed for app development from months to hours while maintaining the personalization required for each business. Its feeds and messaging software already powers experiences for over half a billion users.

The 60-person company was founded in 2014 in Amsterdam by Thierry Schellenbach and Tommaso Barbugli and has offices in Boulder (Colorado, USA) and Amsterdam. This new round brings the company’s total funding to $20.25 million.

Diederik Ingen Housz, managing partner at Knight Venture Capital:

As every company strives to become a tech company, an endless array of software is to be created to fuel their growth. It’s no surprise that cloud component software - enabling developers to build applications quicker and better - is the next trillion-dollar market. These companies are selling the picks and shovels for the new digital world, which momentum is only increased due to COVID-19, the shortage of IT talent and the increased consumer expectations on using digital products. Stream is an excellent example of such company and we are excited to be part of their incredible growth story together with some of the most respected individuals of the industry.
